Product storage stability
Three batches of each formulation were stored in commercial packaging for 24 months at 25°C and 60% relative humidity. After 24 months of storage, the remaining enzyme activity ranged from 85.5 - 90.7% in Axtra PHY GOLD 30L, 98.4-105.2% in Axtra PHY Gold 30T, and 95.1-107.9% in Axtra PHY Gold 65G
Storage stability in feed and premix

Storage stability in premix and feed
Three different batches of Axtra PHY Gold 30T and Axtra PHY Gold 65G were supplemented to a vitamin/mineral premix. Samples of the premix were stored for six months at 25°C in airtight plastic containers. After six months of storage, the remaining enzyme activity ranged from 90.3 - 91.8% with Axtra PHY GOLD 30T and 82.8 - 108.7% for Axtra PHY Gold 65G.

The stability of the phytase was studied in mash feed (solid product added).  Feed samples were stored for three months at 25°C and 60% relative humidity. The remaining enzyme activity ranged from 83.4 - 94.5% with Axtra PHY GOLD 30T and 82.3 - 100.1% for Axtra PHY Gold 65G.

The stability of the phytase, when added to pelleted feed, was also tested using both the solid and liquid products. After three months of storage at 25C 60% relative humidity in small paper bags the residual activities were:

Axtra PHY GOLD 30L: 82.3 - 95.7%
Axtra PHY GOLD 30T: 90.4 - 105.8%
Axtra PHY GOLD 65G: 76.9 - 99.1%

Heat stability
The heat stability of each formulation was tested at different temperatures.

Axtra PHY GOLD 30T, 95°C for 30 s residual phytase activity: 89.7 - 110.7%
Axtra PHY GOLD 30L, 75°C for 30 s residual phytase activity: 80.1 - 91.7%
Axtra PHY GOLD 65G, 75°C for 30 s residual phytase activity: 81.9 - 103.9%

The content of phytase in feed pelleted at 90°C was analysed. The residual activity ranged between 80.5 and 88.5%.

Physical properties
A dusting potential test showed that Axtra GOLD 30T has an average dusting potential of 6.67 mg/m3, ranging from 0 - 20 mg/m3. The value for Axtra PHY GOLD 65G was 13.3 mg/m3.
Laser diffraction was used to determine the particle size distribution. The test showed that all particles in the T and the G products were larger than 200 µm in diameter.

Homogeneity
All three product forms were tested for their homogeneous mixing ability in the feed. Ten subsamples of mash feed supplemented with the solid forms were analysed. The liquid form was sprayed onto pellets, and ten subsamples were collected for analysis.

Coefficient of variance:
Axtra PHY GOLD 30T: 5.8 -10.2%
Axtra PHY GOLD 30L: 7.9 - 10.0%
Axtra PHY GOLD 65G: 1.4 - 1.8%

Carrier
Axtra PHY GOLD 30T: Sodium sulphate, poly-vinyl alcohol, hydrated magnesium sulphate

Handling
The European Commission states: "For users of the additive and premixtures, feed business operators shall establish operational procedures and organisational measures to address potential risks resulting from their use. Where those risks cannot be eliminated by such procedures and measures, the additive and premixtures shall be used with personal breathing, eye and skin protective equipment."
