Natuphos E

Introduction
Natuphos E is a product containing 6-phytase. It is available in various concentrations and three different forms: powder, granulated, and liquid. The granulated form is more suitable for pelleted feed due to its higher heat stability.

Product storage stability

Three batches of Natuphos 5000 E (powder form) were stored in closed paper bags for 24 months at either 20°C or 30°C.
Recovery rates:
6 months at 20°C: >95%
18 months at 20°C: >85%
24 months at 20°C: >80%
3 months at 30°C: >70%
6 months at 30°C: <50%

The granulated form was also tested using three batches each of Natuphos 5000 E G and Natuphos 10000 E G. Product samples were stored for up to 15 months in closed plastic bags for up to 15 months at either 20°C or 30°C.
Recovery rates:
6 and 15 months at 20°C: >90% regardless of formulation
2 months at 30°C: >84% (5000 E G)
2 months at 30°C: 85% (10000 E G)
6 months at 30°C: >75% (5000 E G)
6 months at 30°C: 68% (10000 E G)
15 months at 30°C: >49% (5000 E G)
15 months at 30°C: 41% (10000 E G)

Storage stability in premix and feed
Three batches of the product as either powder or granulate were added to a mineral premixture and stored in closed paper bags for six months at 20°C or 30°C, respectively. After six months, the residual activity was >78% for powder and >90% for granulate at 20°C. When stored at 30°C the residual activity for the powder form was very low at 20-23%. The activity in the granulated form was >78%.

Three batches of the product, either powder or granulate, were added to a complete feed, either mash or pelleted. These samples were stored in closed paper bags for 16 weeks at 20°C or 30°C, respectively.

Recovery rates:
Mash feed 20°C: 93%
Pelleted feed 20°C: 90%
Mash feed 30°C: 82%
Pelleted feed 30°C: 73%

Heat stability
Both the powder form as well as the granulated form were tested at three different temperatures: 80°C, 85°C and 90°C.

Recovery rates:
80°C powder: 85%
80°C granulated: 82% (Natuphos E 5000 G)
80°C granulated: 98% (Natuphos E 10000 G)
90°C powder: 50%
90°C granulated: 70% (Natuphos E 5000 G)
90°C granulated: 88% (Natuphos E 10000G)

Carrier
Liquid form: Glycerol, sodium benzoate, water
Powder: wheat bran, magnesium sulfate, vegetable oil
Granulated form: starch, polyvinyl alcohol, gum arabic, was-based coating agent, water

Particle size
The mean particle size in the powder is 368-374 µm. The content of particles below 100µm, 50µm and 10µm was 5%, 2.6% and 0.1%, respectively.
The mean particle size in the granulated form is 600µm. More than 90% of the particles are smaller than 850µm, <710 µm >80%, <600 µm >50% and below 63 µm: 0.01 - 0.08%

Handling
The European Commission states: "For users of the additive and premixtures, feed business operators shall establish operational procedures and organisational measures to address potential risks resulting from their use. Where those risks cannot be eliminated or reduced to a minimum by such procedures and measures, the additive and premixtures shall be used with personal protective equipment, including skin and breathing protection."
